"RoboCop" (2014) is a science fiction action film directed by José Padilha. It is a reboot of the 1987 film of the same name. The story is set in the near future, where multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the forefront of robot technology. Alex Murphy, a loving husband, father, and honest cop in Detroit, is critically injured in the line of duty. OmniCorp sees an opportunity to create a part-man, part-robot police officer.
Murphy is transformed into RoboCop, a cyborg programmed to uphold the law. However, as he starts to recall his previous
life and memories, he begins to struggle with his new identity and the manipulation of his human side by the corporation. The film explores themes of dehumanization, the ethics of artificial intelligence, and corporate corruption.
Starring Joel Kinnaman as Alex Murphy/RoboCop, the cast also includes Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, and Samuel L. Jackson. The film received mixed reviews, with praise for its action sequences and special effects but criticism for not capturing the satirical tone of the original.
